Story about Rudy!
It had been 20+ years since our beloved smooth-haired dachshund had
past away. We often thought was it would be great to have another
dachshund but busy work schedules were not agreeable to the idea.
Fast forward to 2009. At our health club we met a member who showed
Afghan hounds. One day she asked if we had a dog, to which the
answer was no but now that we are retired this would be the time.
After a few weeks of chatting with our new "dog friend" we decided
to seek her help to locate a wirehaired dachshund breeder. A few
weeks later we had a name and happily called. Soon the many e-mails
began. We were thrilled at the prospect of having a dachshund puppy.
Before we knew it, we were on our way to Red Hook, New York to pick
up "Rudy". We arrived a day early and stayed in Rhinebeck. The next
day was our wedding anniversary and the day we finally could meet
Rudy. Everything went well. The breeder was a very neat lady and her
dog show successes were evident. There were ribbons and awards
everywhere in her dachshund building. After many questions from both
parties, the decision was made ......the black and tan (wild boar}
was the choice. After several hugs (and kisses to Rudy) we were
homeward bound. Looking back, it is clear - we didn't really choose
Rudy, he chose us!!!!!!
